My Passion for Guns

When I was a young boy, my father got me into guns and hunting. He taught me the fundamentals of guns and how to be safe with them at all times. Every time I look at the news I see school shootings or people who misuse guns. They are ruining the reputation of guns. Many people think guns are just weapons to use for massacre. They have a negative connotation to them and I want that to change. Guns are not always used for killing/hunting. They can be used for recreational purposes such as: skeet shooting and target practice. The people who commit these insane shooting crimes are not right in the head. They either have mental problems or have been bullied their whole life. The problem isn't the guns. It's the families who grow these people up who don't know how to handle guns or are the people who get bullied so much that there is no helping them. People need to stop ruining the reputation of guns.

Governor Jerry Brown Vetoes Semi-Automatic Weapons Ban

In this article in the NY TimesJerry Brown was set with an ultimatum. Democrats tried to pass a large amount of gun control laws after a large string of mass shootings occurred. They wanted to crack down on semi-automatic weapons, as well as crack down on high capacity magazines, and lead ammunition. Jerry Brown vetoed the strongest part of the bundle of laws. He vetoed the ban on semi-automatic weapons that, if passed, would of made semi-automatic weapons banned. The state of California, has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States. Mr. Brown said, "I don't believe that this bill's blanket ban on semi-automatic rifles would reduce criminal activity or enhance the public safety enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners right's."
I'm very glad Jerry Brown vetoed parts of this bill, especially the semi-automatic ban. The semi-automatic ban, if passed, would of caused an immense amount of controversy with the 2nd amendment. The National Rifle Association(NRA), would of rallied up their troops and protested the decision. I feel that banning semi automatic weapons would not help decrease mass shootings at all. It is not the guns fault, it is the person behind the weapon that is the problem. If you look at the recent school shootings: Columbine and Newtown, you will see that the shooter had problems. Whether that's bullying at school or family issues, the person is not completely sane. The people are the issue in the situation. Saying that guns kill people is the same as saying that cars kill people. As it states in the article, California has some of the strictest gun laws, and we have some of the least amount of gun violence compared to the rest of the United States.  As well as, the percentage of people who own guns are very low considering every other states percent of people who owns guns are much more than California. I am very glad Governor Jerry Brown did not pass the law that would make semi-automatic weapons banned. I hope Brown or the government never decide to ban semi-automatic weapons.

My Memory of Shooting My First Gun

The first time I shot a gun was when I was six. I remember the day to the tee. It was a warm summer evening, my father brought out his .22 caliber rifle and asked me if I wanted to shoot it. I said yes and I was glad because It became one of the best days I have ever had. We shot for an hour, while my dad showed me the ropes. We both had a great time shooting together and even to this day we both shoot regularly, at the gun range or In our backyard. We always have a great time together and It Is a stress reliever for the both of us. We have made our own father son tradition and we will continue to shoot together.

The History of Guns

Guns have been around for more than people realize. Gunpowder was invented around 850 AD and around 1364 was the first recorded use of a firearm. Around 1380, handguns are known across Europe and around the 1400's the "matchlock" gun appears. 1607, settlers arrive in Jamestown, Virginia and 23 years later, in 1630, the true "flintlock" appears. 1750-1850's guns became weapon of choice for a duel. In 1825, percussion cap guns are in general use. Back action lock appears is 1830 and five years later, in 1835, the first Colt revolver was made. Samuel Colt revolutionized guns and made the most practical pistol, the Colt revolver. Guns were forever changed by Samuel Colt and his amazing inventions.

Why Gun Safety?

Gun safety is a collection of rules and regulations that are for storing, possessing and most importantly handling firearms. There are 10 basic rules for guns "10 Commandments."The reason I chose this topic is because I am a gun enthusiast and want to educate other people about gun safety. Guns around the world have been in the news in a bad way. I want to help educate people and make guns have a positive connotation.
The ten commandments are as follow: 1.Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 2.Firearm should remain unloaded when not using it. 3.Don't rely on your guns safety mechanisms. 4.Be sure of your target and what is behind it. 5. Use proper ammunition. 6.If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, handle with care. 7.Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting. 8.Make sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting. 9.Don't alter or modify your gun and have it serviced regularly. 10.Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.
